A Liberian-flagged container ship was attacked today while sailing off the coast of Yemen, British marine insurance company Ambrey said.

The vessel is listed as being operated by the Israeli company ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, but may no longer belong to them as it is not listed in other open sources.

It had set sail from Singapore and was heading to Djibouti. His name was not released.

The attack occurred about 88 miles southeast of Aden, according to Ambrey, who cited intelligence that it “hit and sent a distress signal.”

It remains unclear, however, whether it was hit directly by a missile or whether it was damaged by nearby explosions.

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels are launching attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea in a show of solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza. The cargo ship Rubymar sank on Friday, the first since the Houthis launched their attacks last November.
