Indirect talks to end hostilities along the border between Lebanon and Israel will begin during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which begins next week, Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Tuesday.

Mikati told local Al Jadeed television that Lebanese officials are studying a verbal proposal made by US envoy Amos Hockstein, who was in Beirut on Monday to push for a diplomatic solution to the exchange of fire between its powerful Hezbollah militant group Lebanon and Israel.

The US envoy said a diplomatic solution is “the only way out” to end cross-border clashes between Israel and Lebanon. “A possible ceasefire in Gaza” will not “automatically” mean an end to violence on the Lebanese front, he warned before turning to Israel.

Hezbollah reiterates that it will not stop its attacks against Israel unless there is a ceasefire in Gaza.
