Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis were in Odessa when they heard an explosion nearby – Moscow claimed responsibility for the missile attack
Five people were killed from the Russian attack on Odessa port facilities today, one said representative of the Ukrainian Navyaccording to the newspaper Ukrainska Pravda.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis were in Odessa when they heard an explosion nearby.
Moscow claimed responsibility for the missile attack, saying it hit a base of unmanned, remote-controlled watercraft. “Mission accomplished. The target was hit,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a post on social networking sites. Reuters was unable to verify this claim.
According to the Russian ministry, “a hangar in the commercial zone of the port of Odessa, in which unmanned floating vehicles from the Ukrainian armed forces were being prepared for combat,” was hit.
According to a senior Ukrainian naval officer, Russia has launched more than 880 drone strikes and more than 170 missiles at Odesa’s port infrastructure since last July. Moscow has stepped up its attacks on the port since mid-July, when it pulled out of an agreement that allowed ships carrying Ukrainian grain to pass safely through the Black Sea.
