Russia’s foreign ministry said on Thursday it had summoned Lynne Tracy, the US ambassador to Moscow, to warn her that it would expel US diplomats it sees as interfering in its domestic affairs.

Moscow issued the warning ahead of presidential elections on March 15-17which the President Vladimir PutinRussia’s top leader for more than 20 years, is certain to win.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it would look into what it called “subversive actions and dissemination of information” related to the elections and what the Kremlin.

He reported that such behavior “will be vigorously and decisively repressedup to and including the expulsion as “persona non grata” of United States Embassy personnel involved in such actions.”

The State Department also asked the US Embassy to stop supporting three US non-profits that he said were performing “anti-Russian programs” in the country with the aim of “recruiting ‘agents of influence’ under the guise of educational and cultural exchanges”.

These three mco, including American Councils for International Education and Institute of International Educationwere declared “undesirable” in Russia, the ministry said.
