Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday that Russia will not be invited to the first peace summit expected to be held in Switzerland in the coming months.

After talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul, Zelensky said a Russian representative could be invited to the next meeting after a peace road map is discussed and agreed with Ukraine’s allies at the summit in Switzerland.

“We don’t see any representatives of Russia at this summit. We don’t see how people can be invited who block, destroy and kill everything. We want to have a result, a just peace,” Zelensky said.

Last week, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said after a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov that it was time for Ukraine and Russia to start talks on a ceasefire, adding, however, that this should not mean recognizing Russian possession.
