The OHE is in contact with partners in Cyprus for the maritime corridor, says the representative of the UN Secretary General

The UN team led by the Senior Coordinator for Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction for Gaza, Sigrid Kaag, is coordinating with partners in Cyprus the sea corridor operation to transport humanitarian aid to Gaza, the UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson said on Friday , Stéphane Dujarric.

“Sigrid Kaag, the Humanitarian Relief and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza has a technical team in Cyprus to work with the organizing partners and has been involved in discussions about the initiative as an additional access route to Gaza,” he said.

“The operational details of the specific sea missions or the building of the dock or the port are managed by the partners of the initiative” noted Mr. Dujarric.

The UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson went on to say that “everything is moving fast. Ms Kag and her team had contacted the partners. Jamie McGoldrick was also in Cyprus. Ms. Kaag’s team remains in Cyprus.”

I mean, he said, “in general, it’s a very dynamic situation and things are changing.”

“It is clear that we are not an operational partner in this sea corridor. The US State Department issued a statement, which I think was very clear. They are doing that, and they are also in contact with Ms. Kaag, since she was mandated by the Security Council to create a mechanism for safe and effective and large-scale distribution of aid, and let’s not forget about reconstruction,” he said.

So apparently, he added, “these people, these partners have gathered there. It’s normal to be on the ground talking to them to make sure that all the efforts, all the money that’s going to be spent, all the aid that’s going to be sent is going to be delivered safely and in as coordinated a way as possible.”
