The US military general support ship ‘Gen. Frank S. Besson’ (LSV-1) departed Langley-Justice in Virginia, USA, bound for the Eastern Mediterranean to support the maritime humanitarian aid campaign in the Gaza Strip, the US Armed Forces Command announced today which is responsible for the Middle East region (US Central Command or CENTCOM).

The ship in question serves to provide logistical support to units with what is required to enable them to operate away from land bases. The “Gen. Frank S. Besson” (LSV-1) set sail “less than 36 hours after President Biden announced that the US would provide humanitarian aid to Gaza by sea,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

It is carrying “temporary wharfing equipment” that will serve to deliver humanitarian aid to starving civilians in the besieged Palestinian enclave.
