Portugal’s centre-right Democratic Alliance (AD) appears set to narrowly win today’s parliamentary election, but appears far from securing an outright parliamentary majority, according to three exit polls.

According to the pulse measurements the AD moves between 27.6%-33%, just ahead of the ruling Socialist Party (PS) which gathers percentages between 24.2% to 29.5%.

Polls by the three largest Portuguese television networks SIC, RTP and TVI show that all right-wing parties combined, including the far-right Chega, are likely to secure an absolute majority together. Chega ranges between 14%-21.6%, a huge percentage jump from 7.2% which he recorded in the last elections of January 2022.

However, AD has so far ruled out any collaboration with Chega.

After eight years of socialist governments, the Iberian country’s parliament appears to be shifting to the right with a new push from populists, according to exit polls.
