Bushnell self-immolates live on social media platform Twitch to protest war in Gaza
The Palestinian city of Jericho has named a street after Aaron Bushnell, the US Air Force soldier who set himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy in Washington to protest the war in Gaza, the Guardian reports.
The 25-year-old, who died on February 25, “sacrificed everything” for the Palestinians, Jericho Mayor Abdul Karim Sidr said at the unveiling of the street sign on Sunday.
Jericho, Palestine 🇵🇸
The oldest city on Earth, where Jesus passed through to Jerusalem and cured a blind beggar.

“We didn’t know him and he didn’t know us. There were no social, economic or political ties between us. What we share is the love of freedom and the desire to stand against these attacks in Gaza,” the mayor told a small crowd gathered on the new Aaron Bushnell Road.
Bushnell set himself on fire live on social media platform Twitch, declaring he would “no longer be complicit in genocide” and shouting “free Palestine” as he lit the fire. Law enforcement extinguished the flames, but he died at the hospital several hours later.
In Jericho, Bushnell’s extreme act is seen as the strongest expression of grassroots solidarity. Amani Rayan, a Jericho city council member who grew up in Gaza and moved to the occupied West Bank to study at the age of 19, said: “Bushnell sacrificed the most precious thing, regardless of your beliefs. This man gave all his privileges for the children of Gaza.”
