The death toll from floods in southeastern France rose today to fourwith the discovery of the body of a man, the local authorities announced, while in Spain the fate of three people who were swept away by the waves is unknown.

On the outskirts of the village of Dion in southeastern France, north of Nîmes, the body of a man was found, as announced by the prefecture of the department of Gard. The fate of three people – a father and his two children – was unknown in the area.

The mother, aged 40, was rescued before the vehicle she was riding in, which was on a sinking bridge, was swept away by the overflowing river.

The fate of the two children, aged 4 and 13, is still unknown, as was the fate of a man in the prefecture of Ardes.

Storm Monica was accompanied at the weekend by strong wind gusts and significant rainfall in European countries.

In Spain, three people were swept away by the waves and their fate is unknown, the authorities announced today, who are continuing the search to find them.
