Thirteen years have been completed today by 9 magnitude undersea earthquake 130 km east of Japan in the Pacific Oceanthe tsunami that was caused and the destruction of the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

The earthquake of March 11, 2011 in the Tohoku region, has still left open wounds.

According to Japanese police authorities, a total of 15,900 people have lost their lives to date due to direct or indirect effects of the earthquake, with 10 more to be added in 2023 to the grim list.

Furthermore, 2,520 people are still officially considered missing.

After the Fukushima disaster, tens of thousands of its inhabitants evacuated the area for reasons of safety and protection from radiation.

Nowadays, almost 30,000 people still have not returned to their homes

In fact, the tsunami was far more destructive and deadly than the earthquake itself. Tsunami waves reached up to 40 meters in some places, reaching up to 20 km inlanddestroying towns and villages in their wake.
