Indian Air Force Tejas fighter jet crashed today during a training flight in the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan.

The pilot of the small fighter jet ejected in time, and no injuries were reported on the ground, according to Indian media reports.

The fighter jet crashed outside a student hostel in the city of Jaisalmer and burst into flames. The preliminary investigation indicates that “engine failure was the cause of the LCA Tejas crash in Jaisalmer,” according to an Air Force official cited by Indian media.

This is the first crash of this type of fighter since the Indian-made aircraft was first introduced more than two decades ago.
