Unspeakable tragedy in Gaza. In the enclave’s central sector, the al-Tabatibi family was celebrating the first Friday of Ramadan and preparing the pre-fast morning meal when a bomb reduced the house to rubble.

According to 19-year-old Mohammad al-Tabatibi, who survived, 36 members of his family were killed.

“My father, my mother, my aunt, my brothers,” said the young Palestinian pointing to the bodies lined up at Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Ballah.

“They bombed the house while we were inside. My mother and aunt were preparing sohoor, the meal before the start of the fast, in this Nuseirat refugee residence, where Mohammad and his family, expelled from the northern part of the Gaza Strip, had settled, hosting relatives them, after the start of the war.

“I don’t know why they bombed the house,” said Mohammad, wounded in the left arm and in a state of shock.

The Health Ministry of Hamas registered 36 dead, members of the same family, from the blow it attributed to the Israeli army.

The Israeli military responded to an AFP question by saying that it “targeted two terrorists from the Nuseirat faction” of Hamas, without further elaboration. “The circumstances of the incident are being examined”he added.

For its part, the Palestinian Red Crescent announced in X that airstrikes targeted “several residences” during the night in the refugee camp.

In total, 60 airstrikes were carried out overnight across the Gaza Strip, according to Hamas authorities.

In the ruins of the al-Tabatibi family home, Youssef, another family member, searches for missing persons in the rubble.

“We cannot find some of the dead. We don’t have the equipment, excavators, machinery, nothing. We should try to get them out with our hands. We have brought shovels and hammers, but in vain.”

At Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balakh, dozens of people have gathered around the dead, between them are two small children, which are placed in sacks or wrapped in white sheets or blankets. After being placed on the back of a truck carrying humanitarian aid, they will be taken to a cemetery where they will be buried in a mass grave, according to an AFP reporter.
