Qatar’s Al Jazeera television channel on Monday accused the Israeli army of beating and arresting one of its journalists, Ismail Algul, during the operation at Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

“The occupying army hit hard Al Jazeera journalist Ismail Algoul and then arrested him, in the compound of Al Shifa Hospital,” the channel said in a post on the X platform.

The Israeli military, when asked about the issue by AFP, did not immediately respond.

A source close to the channel said, requesting anonymity, that five other people were arrested, including Algoul’s cameraman. An Israeli tank destroyed their vehicle.

“Al Jazeera demands immediate release of his correspondent and the other journalists arrested with him and makes the occupying forces responsible for their safety,” the channel added in its statement. He added that the journalist was “taken to an unknown location” and that “a relay van, cameras and other equipment were destroyed after the arrests”.

In February Al Jazeera had accused Israel of systematically targets them his workers in Gaza.

According to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists, at least 95 journalists have been killed since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas. 90 of them were Palestinians.
