Putin show in Moscow. A few hours after his re-election with a “Stalin” percentage (nearly 88%), the Russian president addressed the crowd gathered in Moscow’s Red Square to watch a patriotic concert celebrating the 10th anniversary of the annexation of Crimea.

With shouts of “Russia!”, “Russia!” the assembled crowd greeted Putin in his first public post-election appearance. He was accompanied by his three electoral “opponents” in the elections organized in Russia for the renewal of his presidential term.

“The return to the homeland turned out to be more difficult, more tragic, but we succeeded and it is a great event in the history of our state,” Putin said before singing the national anthem with the crowd.

Russia annexed Crimea in March 2014 after the intervention of the special forces of the Russian army. In September 2022, Moscow declared the annexation of four more Ukrainian regions under partial Russian occupation: Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine, Kherson and Zaporizhia in southern Ukraine.
