Washington made clear on Monday that the Russian elections that led to the renewal of Vladimir Putin’s term were not free
No statement from the US will undermine his victory Vladimir Putin in the Russian presidential elections and will not shake the trust he has won from the people of the country, the Kremlin spokesman told TASS Dmitry Peskov.
Commenting on the announcement of the White House about anti-democratic elections in Russia, Peskov said that “no “verbal gymnastics” he will not be able to reduce Putin’s election victory and, more importantly, crush people’s faith in him.”
Washington made clear on Monday that the Russian election that led to his re-election Vladimir Putin were not free, and that the United States they are not going to extend congratulations.
“It was an incredibly undemocratic process,” State Department spokesman Vedant Patel told reporters.
Asked if Washington was going to refuse to recognize the vote’s result, as Russian dissidents are demanding, the spokesman said: “I think we can say that probably there will be no congratulatory phone call on behalf of the United States.”
The American official talked about elections under duress, for the absence of any real political opponent, amidst the suppression of every dissenting voice.
The Russians “they deserve free and fair elections and the ability to choose from a pool of candidates that will represent a wide range of different viewpoints,” he said.
