The way it continues to conduct hostilities may amount to using starvation as a method of warfare, which constitutes a war crime, a UNHCR spokesman said.
Israel’s severe restrictions on humanitarian aid entering Gaza and the potential use of starvation as a weapon may “constitute a war crime”, the UN said today.
“The range of restrictions imposed by Israel on the entry of aid into Gaza, as well the manner in which it continues to conduct hostilities may amount to the use of starvation as a method of war, which constitutes a war crime”, said Jeremy Lawrence, the representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, during a regular press briefing at the UN headquarters in Geneva.
Israel has denied that it is blocking humanitarian aid from entering the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, in Gaza, Hamas’ health ministry in the Palestinian enclave announced today that at least 31,819 Palestinians have been killed and 73,934 wounded since October 7 during the Israeli military attack on Gaza.
