The need for the EU to invest more in its defense industrial base as well as to ensure that there is more cooperation at the European level, he stressed the president of the European Council, Charles Michel speaking at a Euronews event in Brussels and asked about an opinion piece published in the European press in which he said “we must be ready for defense and shift to a ‘war economy'”.

He also noted that citizens should know that “we are facing a serious threat with the decision made by Russia to invade Ukraine. He further emphasized that the EU did the right thing immediately, supported Ukraine, imposed sanctions on Russia, but more needs to be done.

Finally, the president of the European Council pointed out that an effort will be made at the upcoming summit to take concrete steps to provide more military equipment to Ukrainemore financial support and to put even more pressure on Moscow if necessary.
