An urgent investigation was ordered by the London clinic, The London Clinicwhere Kate Middleton’s surgery took place after it was reported that at least one member of his staff tried to violate medical confidentiality and to gain access to the Princess of Wales’ file following her scheduled abdominal surgery last January.

Mystery surrounds this massive scandal, with the private clinic refusing to say when it was first made aware of the potential medical privacy breach. It has also been unable to confirm the exact date the alleged breach is said to have taken place, but the revelation came a day after a video emerged showing Kate walking with Prince William outside Windsor last weekend.

The data watchdog, speaking to the Dailymail, said it had “received a report of a breach” and was in the process of “evaluating the information provided”.

Meanwhile, members of the hospital, based in Marylebone, central London, said staff were “shocked and dismayed” that a “trusted colleague” could have carried out such an act.

After the scandal broke, a source with knowledge of what has happened at the hospital told the Mirror: “This is a major breach of security and is incredibly damaging to the hospital, given its impeccable reputation for treating members of the Royal Family. Senior hospital officials contacted Kensington Palace immediately after being informed of the incident and assured the Palace that a full investigation would be carried out. All medical staff have been left completely shocked and distressed by the allegations and were deeply hurt that a trusted colleague could have been responsible for such a breach of trust and ethics.”

Kate Middleton is said to have been informed of what has happened, while a Kensington Palace spokesman said of the possibility of a possible criminal offense being committed: “This is a matter for The London Clinic.”
