The Italian police had the last word and managed not only to track down the man who dumped two sofas in a field last week, but also to… return his rubbish to his garden.
The police of Romano di Lombardia, near Bergamoreleased today a video of the “return” of the two sofas, as a warning to those who throw their waste into nature.
“Did you miss something?» reads the caption on the video showing the two broken sofas, abandoned in a field, on the side of the road.
In the following shots, a large dustbin unloads the two couches onto the offender’s lawn.
“The local police will find them and bring them to your home,” the message warns, to the tune of a popular South African children’s song “The lion sleeps tonight».
The unconscious citizen, identified thanks to surveillance cameras, risks a fine of up to 10,000 euros.
“Home delivery (of garbage) is an impressive gesture but also very symbolic, to explain that we will not tolerate littering» in nature, commented the mayor of Romano, Sebastian Nicoli, in the newspaper Il Corriere della Sera. “The message to everyone is that they should not think they can do whatever they want to the detriment of the community,” he added.
