French President Emmanuel Macron said today from French Guiana, where he is on an official visit, that the Islamic State jihadist organization from the Khorasan region has attempted to commit several terrorist acts in France in recent months.
The French president also said that the French security services have recently proposed to their Russian counterparts, as well as to those of other states in the region, a “close cooperation” in the fight against terrorism. He also reported that the French services they had information that could be useful to the Russian security services.
At the same time, he pointed out that all signs point to the attack that killed 137 people at the concert venue in Moscow was carried out by the Islamic State.
“This attack was claimed by the Islamic State and the information we have, in our (intelligence) services as well as our main partners, indeed suggests that it was an Islamic State entity that instigated this attack,” Macron said.
“I think it would be both cynical and counterproductive for Russia itself and the security of its citizens to use this framework to try to turn it against Ukraine.”
