British justice decided today to grant Julian Assange the right of a last appeal against his extradition to the USwhere he is prosecuted for massive document leak under a 1917 Espionage Act and is threatened with life imprisonment.

The two judges of the High Court in London, Victoria Sharp and Jeremy Johnson have announced they are granting the 52-year-old Wikileaks founder the right to appeal his extradition to the USwhich was accepted by the UK government in June 2022.

The court ruled that Assange can continue his extradition appeal at a new full hearingunless the United States provides “satisfactory assurances” that he can invoke the First Amendment to the US Constitution (Bill of Rights) and that he may face the death penalty.

US justice prosecutes Julian Assange for publishing more than 700,000 classified documents since 2010 on US military and diplomatic activities, particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan.

WikiLeaks founder faces 175 years in prison in this case which has become a symbol of the threats against the freedom of the press.

In recent weeks, relatives of Julian Assange, who has been held for five years in Belmars maximum security prison in London, warn of the deterioration of his health.

His defense has also warned him risk to commit suicide in case of extradition.
