This year shows a mixed picture regarding the feeling of happiness by regions of the world and by age International Happiness Report 2024which is compiled by experts under the coordination of the University of Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, the polling company Gallup and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

The ten happiest countries of the world remain more or less the same for the three years 2021-2023, the period on which this year’s ranking is based.

In the 2024 ranking (for the period 2021-23), the happiest country remains the Finland and the first ten are closed in order by Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Israel, NetherlandsNorway, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Australia.

In the following ten, however, several Eastern European countries have been placed, while major powers such as the USA and Germany have fallen in the ranking.

The sense of happiness is also increased in East Asian countries and decreased in South Asia, North America, the Middle East and North Africa.

THE Hellas It ‘s in the 64th happiness index position among the 143 countries included in the list, with 5,934 points. This is a small drop from last year’s 58th place.

The country that has done the most jump in the happiness index from 2006-2010 until now is n Serbiafollowed by Bulgaria and Latvia.

The least happy countries are Afghanistan, Lebanon, Lesotho, Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Happiness by age groups

In terms of age groups, in most countries of the world young people are happier than older people.

But this has been reversed in North America, to such an extent that experts are talking about a similar “midlife crisis” that young people are going through. To a large extent this trend, which is believed to be recorded in Europe as well, is attributed to the use of social media by young people.

The happier citizens over 60 years old are located in Denmarkthe Finlandthe Norwaythe Sweden and Iceland.

The position of Greece by age

Regarding the happiness of young people under the age of 30, our country ranks 53rd, while among the elderly over 60 it ranks 67th.

At ages 30-45, Greece is 58th and at ages 45-60 it is 56th.

In the comparison of happiness levels from the period 2006-2010 when the index was first compiled to the most recent period 2021-2023 Greece is among the countries with a negative change (with -0.199 points in 99th place).

Key parameters that determine the sense of happiness include per capita income, level of social support, life expectancy, freedom of individual choices, generosity among society, perception of corruption in the country.
