Ukraine: Macron-Zelensky hotline – What was said

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that he had an “urgent” telephone conversation with his French counterpart, Emanuel Macron, during which they discussed the deteriorating situation in Donbas and possible ways to de-escalate.

“I had an urgent conversation with President Emanuel Macron, I informed him about the deterioration on the front, our losses, the bombing of (Ukrainian) politicians and international journalists. We discussed the need and possible ways of immediate de-escalation and civil diplomacy.” on Twitter.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told French counterpart Emanuel Macron tonight that he “will not respond” to Russia’s challenges in eastern Ukraine and that he remains ready for a “dialogue” with Moscow.

“He expressed his willingness not to respond to the challenges along the line of contact,” Elize said, referring to “the latest efforts” to “avoid a major conflict in Ukraine”.

Macron will also have a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin tomorrow at noon.
