A gunman fired this morning at several vehicles, including, according to Israeli media, a school, near Jericho in the occupied West Bank, injuring three people, Israel’s military and emergency services said. .

“A terrorist fired at several vehicles near the town of al-Awza,” about ten kilometers north of the Palestinian city of Jericho, the Israeli army said in a statement.

A 30-year-old man was seriously injured in the attack and two other people, a 21-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries, emergency services said.

According to Israeli state radio, the attacker, who was wearing a hood and carrying a semi-automatic weapon, began shooting shortly after 07:00 at Israeli vehicles and a school bus.

As reported by Israeli media, the school had unbreakable windows.

Israel’s military immediately sent reinforcements to the scene and closed all roads while it searches for the attacker, it said in a statement.

Violence has escalated in the West Bank, an area Israel captured in 1967, after the war in the Gaza Strip began on October 7.
