The bodies of two people who were swept out to sea were recovered today in northwestern Spain, which was being swept by gale-force winds and 7-meter-high waves, rescue teams said.

“Two people died after falling into the sea in Muros del Nalón and Cudillero,” said a press release from the Emergency Service of Asturias, a region in the northwest of the country.

Firefighters lifted “the lifeless body of a man” into a helicopter, which had fallen from a breakwater at the Moors de Nalon. They had been warned in the afternoon that “a man had just fallen into the sea”.

At the same time, the emergency response forces were called after a woman fell in the port of Coutiliero, her body “hitting the rocks”.

“After being picked up by a boat that took her to the port, the woman was unconscious.” Rescuers performed CPR for an hour, but the woman was already dead.

Spain’s meteorological service has issued an orange alert warning of dangerous seas today, citing waves of 6 to 7 meters.
