At least two wounded are the result of an Israeli airstrike on the outskirts of Damascus, according to a statement from the Syrian Ministry of Defense.

Images that have seen the light of day show a destroyed building and several severely damaged vehicles.

The Al Jazeera network reports that an Israeli aircraft bombed an apartment building on the outskirts of the Syrian capital, with no reports of casualties.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah-affiliated Al Mayadeen network reports that a building in the Sayida Zeinab district, south of Damascus, was bombed.

Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes in Syria since the neighboring country’s civil war broke out 13 years ago, mostly targeting Iranian-backed forces and Syrian army positions. It has escalated attacks since the start of the war with Hamas on October 7, as tensions rise across the wider Middle East region.

Israel rarely comments on strikes in Syria on a case-by-case basis, but has repeatedly stressed that it will not allow Iran – which backs President Bashar al-Assad’s government – to build up its presence in the neighboring country.
