The hostage situation at the Petticoat club in the eastern Dutch city of Ende had a happy ending.

The thriller ended with the arrest of a balaclava-wearing man leaving the club.

“The last hostage has just been released. One person has been arrested,” the police said in a statement. “We are unable to share any further information at this time.”

Reporters at the scene said a man walked out of the club with his hands in the air, then was arrested and taken to a police car.

Special police units had been deployed to the scene, in the city center of Ede, to deal with a hostage situation, police said on social media.

A little earlier, the Dutch police had announced that three hostages had been released.

The police have proceeded to evacuate 150 homes in the area and have asked citizens not to approach the site.

The newspaper de Telegraaf cited information that the attacker has weapons and explosives.

There is no indication that the hostage-taking is terrorist-motivated, Dutch police said in a statement.

According to the Dutch newspaper the coffee is called Petticoat and attracts mainly young people.

As it had not yet opened this morning for customers, it is assumed that the hostages were workers at the cafe.

Local media estimated the number of hostages to be a total of 4 or 5 people.
