Russia and China have agreed that any meetings on Ukraine that ignore Moscow’s interests are futile, Russian foreign minister said Sergey Lavrov in a press conference with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.
“We discussed the current situation surrounding the crisis in Ukraine,” Lavrov said. “We and our Chinese colleagues supported the conclusion that any international meetings (…) ignore Russia’s position while promoting the so-called peace formula of (Ukrainian leader Vladimir) Zelensky and therefore disconnected from reality they are futile”he said characteristically.

Commenting on the 12-point Ukraine peace initiative proposed by China last year, Russia’s top diplomat praised the plan for addressing the root causes behind the conflict in Ukraine, “primarily within the framework of ensuring indivisible security, including Europe and the world.”
Russia and China have agreed to discuss ways to deepen security cooperation across Europe and Asia to counter attempts by the United States to impose its will on the region, the Russian minister added after talks in Beijing. .
Lavrov said Russia wants the UN Security Council to provide an assessment of Ukrainian drone strikes against the controlled from Russia’s Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. Ukraine has denied being behind these attacks.
He said Russia and China will continue to cooperate in the fight against terrorism as part of their strengthening relationship. “Our cooperation in counter-terrorism will continue within the framework of multilateral institutions,” said Lavrov.
