Ukraine’s anti-aircraft defense systems prevented 20 attacks by Iranian-made drones launched by Russia overnight and targeted 7 regions across the country, Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleschuk announced on Tuesday.

The drones were shot down over the southern regions Mykolayiv, Odessa and Kherson, the central regions of Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava and Vinnytsia, as well as western Lviv, Oleschuk clarified in a post on the Telegram application.

Russian forces launched the Shahed drones in several waves, targeting important infrastructure and energy facilities, Ukrainian military and regional officials said.

Maxim Kozytskyi, the regional governor of Lviv, said that from the drone debris important infrastructures were damaged in the western part of the country, due to a fire that was caused.

In the southern region of Odessa, power lines were destroyed by drone debris, according to a Telegram post by Oleh Kiper, the governor of Odessa.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine announced at the same time that in the central region of Poltava the equipment of an energy installation was damaged.

Russia has stepped up its attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector in recent weeks, with attacks on power plants and other important infrastructure.

The air force of Ukraine also announced that Russia fired 4 missiles from S-300 surface-to-air missile systems; but did not elaborate further on them.
