The United States has received information that an order has been sent to the Russian military administrations to invade Ukraine, several American media outlets reported on Sunday, citing sources close to the intelligence services, who did not name them.
This information prompted US President Joe Biden to say on Friday that he was “convinced” that Russian President Vladimir Putin had decided to attack Ukraine, the Washington Post reported, citing anonymous sources, without directly invoking them.
When contacted by Agence France-Presse, the White House, the Pentagon and the State Department did not confirm or deny the allegations, which were reported by other US media outlets.
On Friday, a Pentagon staffer who assisted in compiling the report, said that more than 40 percent of Russian troops stationed on the Ukrainian border had been attacked, adding that Russia had begun destabilizing the country.
Troop movements to the border have been observed since Wednesday, the official said.
Washington has been warning for weeks that Moscow is looking for a pretext at the border to invade Ukraine. On Sunday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken reiterated that “everything” shows that Russia is on the verge of invasion.
Russia has denied the allegations in a statement issued Friday stating “Similar, baseless allegations concerning Russia’s security have been made more than once.
