“Prime Minister Khan has expressed his intention to resign,” a senior presidency official told reporters
THE South Korean Prime Minister Han Dok-soo submitted his resignation to the president, reports South Korea’s national news agency Yonhap, after his heavy defeat ruling party from the opposition in the parliamentary elections.
“Prime Minister Khan has expressed his intention to resign”, a senior official of the presidency told the press, Yonap notes, adding that many close associates of the head of state are also preparing to resign after the election result, which puts President Yoon Seok-gil in a very difficult position for the rest of his term.
The Democratic Party (the official opposition) won 161 of the 254 seats up for grabs and together with its allies will have a total of 175 seats in the new parliament, while the presidential People’s Power Party and its satellite faction will be reduced to 108 seats (in total 300), according to the data provided by the agency.
Following the result, President Yun pledged to push forward “reforms” in the state and honor “with humility” the “will of the people” as expressed in the polls on Wednesday, stabilizing “the economy.”
