His prime minister Israel Benjamin Netanyahu is to meet with top Israeli officials in order for the government to prepare for a possible attack by Iran, local media reports.

Iranian-Israeli tension has escalatedas the possibility of Tehran is visible to retaliate against the Israeli airstrike in Damascus that killed senior Iranian officials.

Several countries have now warned their citizens not travel to both countries.

US officials told the CBS News networkwith which co-operated by the BBCthat a major attack on Israel it could happen immediately.

Netanyahu is expected to meet with members of his war cabinetincluding Defense Minister Yoav Galland and opposition Benny Gantz.

An American CBS official warned that Iran can use more than 100 drones, dozens of cruise missiles and possibly ballistic missiles.

These are reportedly targeted on military targets in Israel in a wave of attacks that Tel Aviv would find difficult to counter.

The official added that there is still a chance that Iran will decide not to proceed with the attack.

“I can’t speak to the size, the scale, the scope of what this attack might look like,” US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Friday, adding that Iranian threat is ‘credible’ and that Washington is “monitoring it as closely as possible.”

President Joe Biden has already promised Israel his country’s “ironclad” support in the event of an Iranian attack.

Thirteen people were killed in the April 1 missile attack on the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital. They included senior Iranian military leaders, among them Brig Mohammad Reza Zahedisenior commander of Iran’s Quds Force in Syria and Lebanon.

Israel has not officially claimed responsibility for the attackbut everyone appreciates that he designed and executed it.

The war was sparked when Hamas attacked Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip, killing about 1,200 peoplemostly civilians, and taking more than 250 hostages. Israel reports that of the 130 hostages still in Gaza, at least 34 are dead.

More than 33,600 Gazans, mostly civilians, have been killed during Israel’s retaliatory campaign in Gaza, according to Hamas’ health ministry.

Israel also exchanges fire on its northern border with Iran-backed Hezbollah, while Iranian-backed groups in Iraq and Yemen have attempted to strike Israeli soil as well US bases in Iraq and Syria.

Yemen’s Houthi movement has also attacked commercial shipping in the Red Seasinking at least one ship and prompting the US and UK to attack the organization.
