The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that Brussels will consider imposing further sanctions on Tehran, in order to hit Iran’s drone and missile programs in particular.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock has called for tougher sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran after the direct and unprecedented attack it launched on Saturday night against Israel.
Sanctions are already in place because of Russia’s use of Iranian-designed drones in the war in Ukraine, he recalled. “I am strongly in favor of their expansion (…) because we see how dangerous the (Iranian) actions are,” he told public broadcaster ARD.

The EU imposed sanctions on Iran in December to block the production of one-way remote-controlled unmanned aerial vehicles of the type widely used by the Russian military on Ukrainian territory.
