“If Israel attacks us, it will receive a harsh and serious response,” Iranian President Raisi reiterated
The Islamic Republic of Iran marked “Armed Forces Day” today, hailing the “success” of its unprecedented attack on Israel and reiterating that it would make a “tough” response in the event of Israeli retaliation on its soil.
During today’s ceremony, the Iranian armed forces displayed a large number of newly developed weapons, including drones and long-range ballistic missiles.
Iran’s April 14 operation “shaked the glory of the Zionist regime,” said Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who attended the traditional military parade held at a base on the outskirts of Tehran.
Military parades were also held in major cities of the province.
“If Israel attacks us, it will receive a harsh and serious response”
President Raisi reiterated that Iran’s attack on Israel was “precise, measured” and “punitive”, in retaliation for the attack attributed to Israel on the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1, which killed 7 Iranian soldiers, in through regional tension with the war in the Gaza Strip.
“This operation showed that our armed forces were ready,” he added in a speech before the heads of the regular army and the Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Islamic Republic’s ideological army.
“If the slightest attack is committed by the Zionist regime against our territory, it will lead to a harsh and severe response,” he warned again.
Israel has announced that it is determined to make Iran pay the price for its unprecedented attack on Israeli soil, despite international calls for restraint, and from US allies. Almost all of the roughly 350 drones and missiles were intercepted with the help of the US and other allied countries, according to Israel, which reported casualties.
“We will respond at the time, place and manner of our choosing,” noted Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari.
In his speech Raisi also criticized the countries that “sought to normalize their relations with the Zionist regime”. “Now they have been humiliated in the eyes of their people, which is a strategic failure for the (Israeli) regime,” he added, without naming countries.
The Abraham Accords, signed in 2020 with the mediation of the US, allowed for the normalization of Israel’s relations with Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco and follow the conclusion of peace with Egypt and Jordan in 1979 and 1994 respectively.
