A diplomatic clash between the Italian and Spanish governments took place today over abortion rights legislation.

Referring to the possibility of allowing organizations opposed to the right to abortion to be present in Italian public health centers where women are referred, Spanish Equality Minister Ana Redondo wrote on social media X:

“Allowing organized pressure against women who want to terminate a pregnancy is to challenge a right that is guaranteed by law. It is the strategy of the far right: to threaten to take away rights and limit the equality of men and women “.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in her statement to the Ansa news agency a while ago replied: “Several times I have heard foreign ministers talking about internal matters of Italy without knowing them. Usually, when one is ignorant of something, it is better not to teach lessons.”

According to many commentators, this is a diplomatic conflict which will cause a series of political confrontations inside Italy as well.
