The Polish president Andrei Duda stated that he had a private meeting with donald trump, Republican candidate in the US presidential election in November, in New York yesterday, Wednesday.

The Republican’s campaign team described the two men as “very good friends” and added that during their meeting they discussed Duda’s proposal that NATO member countries spend 3 percent of their GDP on defense.

“We had four great years together,” Trump told reporters before the dinner while appearing with Duda in the lobby of Trump Tower. “We may have to do it again.”

“Donald Trump invited me to his private apartment (…) this was just a private meeting on the occasion of my presence here in New York,” said the Polish president, speaking to reporters in the American metropolis.

Duda, whose term ends in 2025, has been one of Trump’s closest allies in the EU during his presidency.

In a video he posted on Truth Social, the Republican said he hopes to be able to work “again” with Duda.

In addition to NATO, the two men “also discussed the war between Russia and Ukraine, the conflict with Israel in the Middle East and many other issues related to world peace,” Trump’s campaign team explained in a statement.

As the US presidential election approaches, Trump has increased his meetings with European leaders. He recently met with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
