The approval of the “coveted” package was welcomed by the West and caused discomfort in Russia
After months of wrangling, the Republican-controlled U.S House of Representatives approved a package of aid bills yesterday 95 billion dollars in Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and other US allies in the Asia-Pacific region.
The package of bills is now expected to go to the Senate for a vote.
The approval of the “coveted” for the Ukraine package was welcomed by the West and caused discomfort in Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude for the passage of the bill to aid his country in its war against Russia.
“I am grateful to the US House of Representatives, both parties, and personally to Speaker (Ret. of the House) Mike Johnson for the decision to stay on the right side of history,” Zelensky wrote in X.
The president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen welcomed this evening the approval – after months of friction – of the bill by the US House of Representatives for new aid to Ukraine.
“Ukraine deserves all the support it can get against Russia. Now, we are asking the US Senate to vote as soon as possible (on the bill) as lives are at stake. Transatlantic allies are united in support of freedom and democracy,” she emphasized in a post on X.
The German foreign minister Analena Burbok he spoke of a “day of confidence in Ukraine and the security of Europe”. “A major obstacle to American aid to Ukraine has been overcome,” the head of German diplomacy said in a post late today. “The hearts of Ukraine’s most important supporters beat as one.”
The US and Europe stand together on the side of freedom and against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “war on terror,” he noted.
Exactly the opposite, with dark predictions were the declarations from Mocha
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the passage of the Ukraine aid bill would “destroy further» Ukraine and will lead to more deaths at the war.
Peskov also stressed that a provision in the legislation allowing the US government to seize Russian assets and transfer them to Ukraine for reconstruction would tarnish the US image. Moscow, he continued, will respond with measures in its own interest.
For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry judged that the bill for new military aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan would “deepen crises around the world”.
“Military aid to the Kiev regime is a direct sponsorship of terrorist activity,” Zakharova said on Telegram.
“For Taiwan, this is meddling in China’s internal affairs. For Israel, it is a full-speed march towards escalation and an unprecedented increase in tension in the region,” he added.
