Police have arrested 21 people on suspicion of planning to sacrifice goats ahead of Easter in Jerusalem, the police announced Monday.

According to the Jerusalem Post, two juvenile brothers, aged 17 and 15, were arrested today in the Givat Mordechai area by the Jerusalem Central Unit on suspicion of planning to slaughter goats as a Passover sacrifice. The two were arrested in the car with the goats and taken for questioning.

Two more suspects, also 17 years old, were arrested in possession of the goats in the city’s Sefra Square area. The other six suspects were arrested in various locations in Jerusalem, some of them again holding goats.

Police also announced that on Monday, detectives from the Central Unit in the Jerusalem District arrested 13 additional suspects aged 13-21 on suspicion of intent to disturb public order.

During police operations across the city, officers identified several suspects who were carrying goats or hiding them in various ways, such as inside shopping bags and carts. The suspects were taken in for further questioning, while the animals were taken to veterinary care.

“The Israel Police are operating in Jerusalem with all security forces, openly and covertly, against anyone who attempts to disrupt order and act contrary to the law and applicable customs in Jerusalem’s holy sites,” the police said in a statement.
