Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani “strongly rejected and condemned the US government’s baseless allegations against Iranian individuals and businesses.”
Iran today described as “baseless” the new sanctions imposed by the US against two companies and four individuals involved, according to Washington, in “malicious cyber attacks”.
These attacks were carried out “in the name of the cyber command of the Revolutionary Guard Corps”, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the US Treasury announced yesterday, Tuesday.
They were carried out “against businesses and US government entities”, according to Washington.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani “strongly rejected and condemned the US government’s baseless allegations against Iranian individuals and businesses.”
According to Kanaani, the United States is “accusing Iranian individuals and institutions without any basis” in order to divert attention, he said, from “the wave of criticism around the world against the United States’ policies of unlimited support for war crimes and genocide that committed by the Zionist regime [το Ισραήλ] in his war against the Gaza Strip”.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Cyber Command is one of the Iranian government agencies behind the hacks, working through a series of front companies to target the United States and many other countries,” the US Treasury Department said.
For the US Treasury Department, the Iranian people “need to know” that this administration is “using private companies and their employees to achieve its illegal goals.”
Last Thursday, the US, in coordination with Britain, was the first to tighten sanctions against Iran after the latter’s attack on Israel on April 13, targeting “Iran’s drone program, steel and car manufacturers”.
The attack launched by Iran followed an airstrike Tehran attributed to Israel in which seven members of the Revolutionary Guards, including two generals, were killed at the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
