Strong interest in Eurovision has resulted in searches for travel to the Swedish coastal city of Malmö increasing by 176% from September 2023 to April 2024, Spanish online travel booking company eDreams ODIGEO announced today.

The Eurovision Song Contest, the biggest of its kind in the world, takes place in Malmö from May 7-11 after Swedish singer Lorin won last year’s contest in Liverpool. It is expected to attract 100,000 visitors to Sweden’s third largest city.

Online searches for travel to Copenhagen, which is less than 50km from Malmö, increased by 34% during this period, according to eDreams.

Tourists from France are the ones most interested in watching the competition in person, accounting for almost a fifth of the total, followed by Germany and the US, according to the company.

The Eurovision contest takes place during what is usually considered a low tourist season, between Easter and the start of the summer holidays.
