Princess Beatrice was “heartbroken” when she was informed that her “playboy” ex-partner was found dead in a hotel room in Miami, possibly from a drug overdose.

Paolo Luinzi, according to the Daily Mail, was addicted to drugs and gambling and allegedly had a lot of debt and was the target of loan sharks.

Beatrice is the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. She started dating Liuzio in 2005, when she was 17 and he was 24, but the couple split in 2006.

Despite the fact that years have passed since their separation, Beatrice is devastated by the news of his death, while according to The Sunnever got over him.

The cause of death has not been officially released as it is against Florida law to do so. According to the death certificate Paolo Liuzzo worked as an Art consultant and was never married. He lived in an apartment near the hotel where he was found dead on February 7.

His body was flown to his hometown of Long Island and his funeral was held on February 16. Officer Michael Vega said: “It is being investigated as a drug overdose death. The investigation remains open and ongoing.”

A friend of Liuzzo’s said after his death: “Paolo was not doing well on a personal level. He loved parties and gambling. He had started using many pharmaceutical drugs at first but this later led to cocaine and harder drugs. He was always borrowing money to pay off old loans. It was a vicious cycle.”

Liuzzo had previously been arrested in Australia for a number of offenses including possession of cocaine.

He was arrested on the Gold Coast on September 27, 2009, after crashing a $90,000 black Audi rental car at traffic lights.

His controversial past began in 2002 when he was accused of murdering a fellow student at the College of the Holy Cross.
