The arrests at USC came hours after clashes between protesters and police at the University of Texas where police made dozens of arrests.
Students at several US universities are abandoning their classes and trying to set up camps outside the universities to protest Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
Hundreds of protesters have been arrested at several US universities in recent days, including Columbia University, Yale University and New York University.
The latest arrests at USC took place as students gathered in Alumni Park. Los Angeles police said during an operation that lasted several hours, the encampment was cleared in an effort to remove the protesters. The students were given a 10-minute warning by police helicopters to disperse. Those who refused were arrested on charges of trespassing.
As police tried to arrest a woman, protesters threw water bottles at them, shouting: “Let her go!” At the same time, protesters gathered around police officers chanting “Free Palestine”.
Yesterday, Wednesday, there were also chaotic scenes on the University of Texas campus in Austin, as hundreds of local and state police on horseback, wielding batons, dispersed the protesters.
