The President of China Xi Jinping he told the US Secretary of State today Anthony Blinken that the two countries should “to be partners, not rivals”, even if “many problems” they insist, according to Chinese state television.

During his meeting with Blinken at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Xi said the two countries “made positive progress” from the end of 2023, China’s state broadcaster CCTV reported.

“Many problems still need to be solved and additional efforts are still possible”he emphasized however.

“I proposed three great principles: mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation,” the Chinese president added, referring to bilateral relations.

“I have already told him many times: the Earth is big enough for China and the United States to both grow and prosper.”

Anthony Blinken has been making his second visit to China in less than a year since yesterday, Wednesday, as part of a diplomatic rapprochement between the two countries despite persistent tensions over Taiwan, trade and the South China Sea.

“China would be happy to see the United States self-confident, open, prosperous and developing”Xi Jinping told his interlocutor today.

“We hope the United States can also adopt a positive vision of China’s development,” he added.

“When this fundamental problem is resolved (…), relations will really be able to stabilize, improve and move forward,” said the Chinese president.
