Spanish authorities confiscated 25 tons of hashishwhich traffickers had hidden in a truck originating in Morocco, which was supposed to be carrying melons bound for France, the Spanish Militia and customs authorities announced today.

The commodity, the value of which “could amount to 50 million euros”, was discovered in the port of Algeciras, in southern Spain, the two organizations clarified in a joint statement.

They had hidden them in “22 wooden crates” inside the truck, which, according to documents presented to authorities, was supposed to be carrying melons bound for Perpignan in southern France.

According to the press release, the alarm was raised by one of its members Spanish militia along with a dog trained to detect drugs.

A thorough search of the truck followed, which led to the discovery of a large amount of hashish.

The amount seized is estimated at “25 tons”, “which constitutes the greater seizure of this substance on the road network” of Spain “from 2015“, the press release points out.

At that time, authorities seized almost 48 tons of hashish, which they had hidden in trucks in Algeciras, the Spanish militia and customs authorities added.
