Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched an attack on the “British” oil tanker Andromeda Star, their spokesman Yahya Shari announced on Friday evening.

At the same time, he claimed that the Houthis shot down an American MQ-9 drone in the Sa’ada region.

Referring earlier to the missile attack against the tanker, the British shipping security company Ambrey clarified that the ownership status of the particular tanker has changed and is no longer British.

Since last November, Iran-aligned Yemeni rebels have frequently launched missile and drone attacks against merchant ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. They initially said they were targeting ships linked to Israel, but later expanded their targets to include ships linked to the US and Britain in retaliation for strikes against their positions in Yemen by forces from those countries.
