Turkey decided to take a position in favor of South Africa, in its appeal to the International Court of Justice in The Hague against Israel.

South Africa has appealed to the International Court of Justice against Israel on charges of genocide and war crimes against the Palestinians in Gaza. Israel, for its part, has denied the accusations, stating that it was self-defense.

As Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said, Turkey decided to get involved in South Africa’s appeal to the International Court of Justice against Israel.

“Turkey will continue to support the Palestinian people under all circumstances,” Fidan said.

On January 26, the International Court of Justice announced interim measures, calling on Israel not to block the delivery of aid to Gaza and to improve the humanitarian situation. He also called on Israel to take all measures at its disposal to prevent acts of genocide. The final decision, however, may take years.

Yesterday, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called on Israel and Hamas to reach an agreement. “For the good of the people of Gaza, for the good of the hostages and their families, for the good of the region and the whole world, I call on the government of Israel and the leadership of Hamas to reach an agreement immediately.”

Mr. Guterres expressed fear that without a deal “the war, with all its consequences, both in Gaza and in the entire region, will worsen dramatically.”
