Authorities in Wisconsin were alerted at around 11 a.m. local time after reports that a gunman tried to enter a high school in the area. According to the Mount Horeb Area School District, the alleged attacker “did not breach the entrance” to the building with authorities “combing” the school to ensure everyone is safe.

“The threat has been neutralized outside the building,” the district later said in a social media post after protocols were first followed and all students remained locked inside the school building.

“Once we confirm everyone’s safety, we will begin the process of reuniting with families,” he said.

The district had earlier posted on Facebook: “Members of the community, there was a gunman at our high school this morning. The person did not trespass. The Police Department is assisting by investigating our building to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We will keep you informed.”

Immediately after the call, there was a large police presence outside the high school.

No injuries have been reported.
