It is not yet known whether Joost Klein will participate in tonight’s final
The appearance of the representative of the Netherlands is considered doubtful so far, Joost Kleinin tonight’s Eurovision 2024 final, following the complaint lodged against him over an incident that took place at the Malmo Arena in Sweden.
According to information and the EBU’s official statement, the artist was caught red-handed with a female photographer, with unofficial sources claiming that he hit a member of the Israeli production, who made a comment about his father’s death, but this has not been confirmed.
According to the Netherlands Broadcasting Corporation (NOS), Joost Klein was questioned by police late on Friday night following a complaint filed by a female television employee who alleged that she received threats from Klein on Thursday. She was also questioned, as were those who were in front of the incident.
The case has now been handed over to the Swedish prosecutor, but its settlement, according to the same publication, may take weeks. It is unclear whether the complaint against him will play a role in his participation in tonight’s final, which is considered doubtful.
This morning, the NPO boss Frederieke Leeflang advised the broadcaster AVROTROS and EBU about Klein’s involvement. Around 10 am AVROTROS announced that they had not yet heard anything from the EBU.
The Dutch singer did not attend the dress rehearsal in Malmö, Sweden on Friday, where he was due to perform in fifth place, ahead of Eden Golan representing Israel. Also on the night, Klein was not allowed to participate in the juried show, where juries award points to artists.
Meanwhile, the EBU has postponed the start of voting for the finalists until a final decision is made, with the Dutch representative remaining silent.
According to the report, a journalist was waiting for him at his hotel on Friday night, but he did not want to answer questions.
