The orders in online stores were for branded products that were sold at attractive prices but when the packages were opened the buyers found that they were counterfeit products, worn out or items of low value. The Polygyro Security Department filed a case file against 12 people for 75 frauds, which occurred from March 2023 to January 2024 in various regions of Greece.

In particular, as stated in a police announcement, the perpetrators created online stores selling clothing, footwear, etc., which they advertised through a social networking website and other websites they had created for this purpose. In the online stores, they allegedly sold branded products, mainly shoes, clothes, bags and perfumes, at tempting prices, in order to convince their potential victims to make online orders. They then sent the orders, usually with COD couriers, but placed in the package products other than the order, such as counterfeit or worn products or items of low value.

From the investigation of the police officers, the role of each member of the criminal group was identified (leading member, beneficiary of the website, sender of packages, beneficiary of the cash payments).

So far it has been established that from March 2023 to January 2024 they have committed a total of 75 frauds, managing to extract a sum of money that exceeds 4,600 euros. Specifically, they committed 46 frauds in Attica, 15 in Thessaloniki, three in Larissa, two each in Aitoloakarnania and Halkidiki, as well as one each in Argolis, Dodecanese, Evia, Imathia, Ioannina, Xanthi and Pella.

The investigation of the police continues both for the identification of their unknown accomplices and for their possible participation in other similar criminal acts.

The file that was created will be submitted to the Halkidiki District Attorney.
